Helsinki Day 4

Great day at Helsinki Day, our PhD symposium at the Institute of Biology - @uni-graz.at! Our PhD students Philipp Faulhammer and Janne Creve presented their research projects on "Identification of Cryptogamic Communities Using Artificial Intelligence" and "Effects of Climate Change on Alpine Biological Soil Crusts." The first project focuses on the automatic identification of cryptogamic organisms such as mosses, lichens, fungi, and cyanobacteria in images taken with drones or smartphones to better assess these organisms and their roles. The second investigates the impacts of climate change on soil crusts in alpine regions to develop more precise predictions for these habitats. Janne won the prize for the best talk!
