Scientific Research Associate (pre-doc) | WWTF Project
Part-time position (30 hours per week), starting earliest possible, and limited until 30.04.2028
The position is based at the Institute for Natural Sciences and Technology in the Art (Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna) and at the Institute for Biology, Working Group on Functional Diversity and Ecology (University of Graz) within the framework of the WWTF-funded project: "Biopatinas on Buildings in Urban Environments: Biofilters, CO₂ Sinks, and Cooling Systems with an Aesthetic-Architectural Effect." The project explores the potential of biopatinas to contribute to a better environment in urban areas (Vienna) by investigating their potential to absorb atmospheric pollutants and act as valuable carbon sinks, to act as natural biofilters and bioremediation systems, trapping particulate matter and dust, and their cooling effects on the microclimate of buildings.

There is an opportunity to pursue a PhD dissertation within the project's research scope.
Responsibilities:
- Participating in the sampling of biopatina in Vienna
- Performing measurements on the gas and particle exchange capacity of biopatina
- Evaluating the water-holding capacity of biopatina
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in natural sciences (environmental sciences, microbiology, chemistry)
- Interest in biogeochemical processes in urban environments (or soils), biodiversity, air quality, and public health
- Good reading and writing skills in English
- Enthusiasm for working in an international and interdisciplinary team
- High commitment and motivation for scientific work
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of programming (e.g., Python)
The gross monthly salary according to the FWF salary scheme for university employees in salary group B1 of the collective agreement is currently EUR 2786,-€ for 30 hours per week.
